Great Britain’s Advertising Standard Authority Finds Animal Sanctuary Ad Offensive
In July, the Advertising Standards Authority ruled that an advertisement distributed in a children’s magazine by the Hillside Animal Sanctuary was “offensive” because it contained graphic pictures of abused animals.
The animal sanctuary paid children’s magazine Term Time to insert its leaflet which features cartoons of healthy animals on the front cover and pictures of abused animals on the interior. Of 35, 000 copies distributed, the magazine’s publisher said it received six complaints about the leaflet.
The ASA did, however, reject claims that the leaflet “misleadingly implied that animal cruelty on farms was common.”
