The Humane Society of the United States is the largest animal rights organization in the United States, with an annual budget of close to $60 million. It is frequently confused with the American Humane Society, which provides training to animal shelter professionals. As its web site notes, "the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) is not affiliated with, nor is it a parent organization for, local humane societies, animal shelters, or animal care and control agencies."
